Welcome to Biz Gamechanger Publicity – Where It All Began

Hello lovely,

Welcome. Thanks for taking the time to read this blog post. If you’re reading this, I imagine you’re the kind of person who likes to get feel for the person behind the business. So who is the real Brenda Gabriel and how did she go from comfy civil servant to Publicity Strategist?

The Turning Point

Well, one fateful day in 2012 (while cycling to a circuit training session) I was run off my bicycle by a van. As I lay there on the floor stunned, I had an epiphany.

I questioned whether I would have been happy with my obituary had my life ended that day. The answer was a resounding ‘No’. I had always had an interest in speaking up for justice and then current my project management job didn’t really hit the spot. I had passed up the opportunity for a promotion just a month before so was feeling stagnant.

A month after the accident, I discovered I was pregnant with my second child. 6 months later an opportunity for redundancy arose. At eight months pregnant, I took a giant leap into the unknown. With an inactive network marketing biz and half an idea about selling hair extensions (I wore them, so figured I could sell them) I left.

The Opportunity

I ploughed my entire compensation payment into a property investment course. It was during the marketing segment my ears pricked up and I decided I wanted to get involved with marketing and publicity.

Armed with gumption and a smile I approached a top PR agency to hire me to improve their online marketing strategy. It took a whole day to put together a short proposal. They agreed. Discovering a flair for PR and marketing lead me to set up Biz Gamechanger PR in 2015, just five months after the birth of my daughter.

I have built up my business from scratch whilst remaining a stay-at-home-mum. I’m on a mission to make my difference in the world through helping agents for change communicate their vision to the masses.  I help game changers leverage traditional and digital media to amplify their voices and connect with their tribe.

Humble Beginnings

Although I have an unfettered passion for designer shoes (and bags) my humble beginnings weren’t quite so glamorous. Born in the small town of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, to unemployed parents during the Thatcher era, my future prospects were bleak.

After the break-up of my parents, aged 10, a move to London gave the opportunity for a fresh start. Life in London brought its own challenges. I became a mum at 16 and was written off by my teachers and society. In spite of this I passed my GCSEs and enrolled in Sixth Form.

Despite later flunking my A-Levels, I secured my first office job in 2001. In 2003 I joined the CPS as a temp before securing a permanent role where I worked my way up.

My Purpose

I want to inspire other women to make the leap into entrepreneurship and design a life of their choosing, regardless of their starting point. If I can do it so can anyone.

This blog will be a mixture of PR and marketing advice with the odd personal anecdote thrown in. I am as passionate about marketing and business mindset as I am about PR so this will be a well-rounded blog.
